How to Start your Own Frozen Custard Business

In your local area, opening a business that is unique to the community can be quite profitable. Self-serve frozen custard and frozen yogurt shops are popular. Children enjoy making their own desserts and adults enjoy tapping into their inner child for a cold treat. When you’re considering starting your own frozen custard business, these are a few items to pay close attention to.

Frozen Custard
Research and Development

It is important to research any potential competition in your local area. Some cities have ice cream shops or frozen yogurt shops, but few have frozen custard shops. Frozen custard is smoother and creamier than ice cream or frozen yogurt, so it offers something different in your local area.

Development includes creating recipes and combinations based upon surveys of the local area and which flavors/flavor combinations are the most popular there. Developing your menu based upon statistics will help you be more appealing to the residents and is likely to bring in business from neighboring communities. Take the time during the development phases to create an exclusive flavor or flavor combination to set your business apart from any competition.

Recipe Testing

Create recipes and test them. If your homemade base is not returning the results you’ve expected, begin testing products from frozen custard mix suppliers. These companies have perfected their recipes, which are easily customized in your shop, to create the desired consistency of frozen yogurt. It is important to test each and every recipe using a focus group comprised of local residents to determine which flavor ideas will be appealing.

Finding a Location and Obtaining Financing

It is important to find a location that has indoor and outdoor seating. You will need space for booths and a counter serving area is also ideal. Ample parking should be available and the location should be easily accessible.

In terms of financing, a small business loan or investment from an outside party can help you open the doors of the new frozen custard shop and maintain it for up to a year, sometimes longer. Securing financing before applying for any type of lease or operations permit should be done. You have to know if you’ll have the money to open your business or not first.

Closing Thoughts

Offering free taste samples is necessary. Customers want to know that they will enjoy a flavor before they purchase their dessert. It is ideal to keep tasting spoon availability upon request to ensure that customers are not eating more than they’re paying for. On launch day, offer a discount to attract more of the local community. Your toppings bar should include healthy and indulgent items, including fresh fruit.

Ice Cream Scoops for Didang’s 9th Birthday

My eldest niece has just turned 9 on April 17. She sure had fun since we spent almost 3-long days of celebration for her birthday. There were a lot of fun and exciting things we experience, and that will be shared and posted in my other blog, but what’s more important and deserved to have a single post here is the ice cream cravings of our lovelies that really caught and melted my heart seeing them happily grabbing their cones and scoops of their favorite ice cream flavors.

Ice Cream Scoops

From the image above, there you can see from the left most is my niece, Alexus, followed by Didang and then my little man, Zach. Each of them chose their own craved flavors. Alexus had mango, Didang had strawberry while my Zach had chocolate.

We supposed not to favor them what they were craving since it was already late at night when we grabbed these sweets. But our little gorgeous birthday celebrant just sweetly asked this that we could not say no. So we immediately rushed to the nearest mall and looked for available ice cream carts. That time the mall was already about to close. But good enough there was still one left open from five which were already fixed to close their carts.

Those smiles of our little lovelies were truly incomparable with ice cream scoops. But of course, having them their favorite scoops could even make their world go round and their smiles are beyond their ears.

Anyway, to you our dearest Didang, happy birthday. We wish you to always have a good health and stay nice and lovely. We love you always.

Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake Swirl

Experimenting with my oven and other kitchen stuff is such a fun thing especially when things turned out right. So far, I got no failed experiments yet or maybe, my boys who used to be my critics are just that biased as to them, all of my baked goodies really tasted the best and that I need to bake more of these and those. Nothing, actually, became left overs for them.

Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake Swirl

My hubby really loves the moistness, chewiness and crusty brownies I used to bake for him. But with the cream cheese available in the fridge, I surprised him with the combination of chocolate brownie added with a swirl of cream cheese.

Here’s how I baked it.

I, first, prepared the oven; preheated it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then I lined my 8×8 square baking pan with parchment paper. I did not grease it anymore, but you may opt to do it. After having my oven and pans ready, I started mixing my ingredients. Using a bowl of my standing mixer, I creamed the ½ cup of softened (take note, not melted, but rather softened) margarine and 1 cup of granulated brown sugar. Once incorporated, I added one by one the two large eggs and made sure to beat well. After which, I added ¾ cup of cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and again, made sure to mix well and set this aside.

Chocolate Brownie BatterThis is how the Chocolate Brownie batter would look like.

Using another bowl and a handheld mixer, or if you only have one mixer, you can use the same you used when making the batter but make sure to clean and dry the paddle before using, I creamed the 8 oz of softened at room temperature the cream cheese, 1 large egg, 4 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until well-combined. With the sugar, you can add more depending on your preference.

Cream Cheese FillingThis is how the Cream Cheese filling would look like.

After preparing the two above, I poured the ¾ part of the batter into the pan and spread the cream cheese filling on the top of the batter layer and dollop the remaining ¼ part of the batter on top of the cream cheese filling using a spatula and swirl into the cream cheese mixture.

I then baked the brownies for about 30 minutes. But you can check until fully cooked. This should be cooled completely before cutting and serving, but in my case, only 1/3 of the baked Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake Swirl was left because my little man could not resist the mouth-watering and really drooling slices of this one.

Sure thing this will also happen to you if you try to bake one.
